REPRODUCING SOME OF THE BEST OF MIDCENTURY FURNITURE WHILE KEEPING VINTAGE AT HEART

Dear All

The love for things vintage will always remain with many of us. Original midcentury pieces are really for keeps nowadays.  They are getting rarer and worth the restoration and reupholstery.  They are still wowed for their fine design and workmanship.  But since, there are less and less of them going around and yet the interest  for them are strong, reproduction is one way of meeting the unsatiated demand and keeping the midcentury spirit alive.

Reproduction has to be a fine one for it to have meaning and usefulness.  The quality of wood and the skilled craftsmanship makes a difference between a fine piece and a bad one. The former elevates the importance of the original, pays allegiance to it and yet confident enough to stand on its own right and it will be just a matter of time before it joins the rank of the classic.  A fine reproduction also allows a reinterpretation of the past, recognizing tradition without being stifled by it, permits creative freedom to bring a fresh perspective without  showing disrespect to what is essentially a classic of its own era.

At SECOND CHARM, we are still passionate about vintage yet keeping the midcentury spirit alive by reproducing some of the best of midcentury furniture, working with good wood and fine craftsmen and identifying and reinterpreting beautiful designs.  It is just a beginning  and we hope to do more in future with your encouraging support and patronage.

A mix of midcentury design chairs, some vintage, some reproduction at our new showroom, two floor down from our current showroom. The floor lamp is a reproduction of the  famous 1940's grasshopper lamp. Instead of metal
shade like the original, we crafted  it from solid wood.  The sideboard
is custom made - essentially  midcentury inspired and enjoying
the functionality of a record holder and a wine cabinet at
the same time.  We had fun making it for
