Dear All
A Malaysian customer had a project in Singapore and took time to visit me at our Singapore outlet, yesterday. Sometime ago in Kuala Lumpur, he bought from us an old table which reminded him of his peranakan childhood and a 3-door vintage wardrobe. He rediscovers us again through the blog. And came to check out a few pieces that he is interested in.
I only knew him as Sherman in Kuala Lumpur. But in the course of our long conversation, this reflective young man, is actually Sherman Ong, a highly respected and accomplished filmmaker and photographer. Checking his website, really blew me away. I'm honourd to have such a distinguished customer.
We spoke on many subjects, from his days as a law student at NUS on Asean Scholarship, his peranakan childhood in Malacca, his changing careers, his passion for his works, language issues, singapore/malaysian politics, emerging lifestlyes and to of course vintage furniture. In the course of that long and engaging conversation, he mentioned several times on the need for sustainability of the enviroment. He expressed concerns on the cutting of trees and loves what we are doing, in terms of restoration and conservation of preloved and vintage furniture.
Only the other day, another customer into vintage furniture, Karen Hoh, complimented us on the works we are doing. It's a great feeling to know we have that kind of support. Interestingly, I found out, that Ikea too has gone into selling used furniture, though just in Sweden, as part of the ongoing concerns for sustainability of the environment! It is a hopeful world, to know that a small fry like us and a big giant like Ikea is doing the same thing for the sake of the future.
By the way, below are some good finds of the week - vintage, italian, contempory pieces. I'm quickly putting them up for your greater choice. All of them are in their original condition. Some will be out for restoration soonest possible. Hope you like them.
