Several weeks ago I suddenly realized I couldn’t remember the last time our landline phone had rung. When I went to check, I found it wasn’t working and every incoming call was going straight to voicemail – and there were six or seven messages.
Thankfully, most of the message weren’t important but a couple were from a friend who’s temporarily living out of state and dealing with a new breast cancer diagnosis. I felt terrible as I listened to the second message asking me to call because she’d really like to talk and process with me about this unplanned – and scary – interruption in her life.
The unfortunate side affect of living in a world where everyone can be reached virtually 24/7 – is how frustrating it is when you can’t reach someone 24/7. If my kids don’t respond to a text within sixty seconds I’m a little miffed. What do they think I have all day? Don’t they realize I’m extremely busy?
That same frustration is expressed by people – at times – regarding our limited hours at Ashley Furniture. Only being open Fridays from 1 to 8 and Saturdays from 9 to 4 is – quite frankly – hard and challenging for a number of people because it doesn’t work for their schedule (typically because they work Friday/Saturday) – and I’m honestly very sorry and can 100% relate since I, myself, work every Friday/Saturday!
If, however, you’re one of the lucky dog people who CAN head out to Ashley Furniture today or tomorrow – what follows are photos of some of the new-to-us things you’ll find:
oh the question – to flash or not to flash? – is always a dilemma for me – without the flash the colors are truer but then the furniture is a little hard to see! Anyway – there are six rolling captain’s chairs – priced $75 for all of ‘em
retro plaid sleeper sofa priced $30
this is a cool piece – originally used as a store display – but it would make a fabulous hall/mud room bench with lots of storage! The shelves are adjustable and there are doors under the seat for more storage! It’s super sturdy and priced $85
fabulous retro side chair for $45
vintage plaid chair – not in fabulous condition but not bad either – priced $20 and there are two of them (and they’re both priced $20 each)
this is a very nice four piece denim sectional and both ends recline but the problem is with the condition of the denim on the seat cushions – it’s faded, somewhat dirty and ripped in one section – priced $125
here’s another very nice sleeper sofa except for the rips on one arm – priced $35
amazing make-up table from the 1920’s priced $175
this is a dark BLUE leather rocker/recliner in excellent condition priced $85
fabulous solid maple round side table from the 50’s priced $55
lovely lighted curio cabinet priced $85
great loveseat for $60; matching sleeper sofa for $45 (sleeper sofa was used much more than the loveseat); wonderful coffee table priced $75
mission style coffee table with one drawer priced $55
IKEA loveseat (some pulls in fabric along one arm) priced $35
I love these deep wingback chairs – both in great condition – priced $85 each
two piece sofa/chaise – in a wonderful brown micro-suede – but it needs to be cleaned – priced $95
I love,love, love this green sofa – priced $225
two wicker chaises (very comfortable – feet end is raised) with cushions (donor gave us an extra cushion) priced $45 each
fabulous hall bench priced $165
wonderful retro dresser for $60
framed world map from 1975 priced $85
antique oak “slide” table with four chairs priced $450
fabulous Vanguard floral chair with throw pillow priced $125
someone’s already started refinishing this table – the top is sanded and everything! – priced $50; chairs are $10 each
unbelievably gorgeous Marshall Field’s king-size sleigh bed includes head board, foot board and side rails (note where wood is damaged in one corner) priced $245; pillow top king mattress is $125; set of king box springs is $10 (all king box springs are $10 for the set – such a deal!)
When I finally reached my friend and explained my non-ringing, broken phone – gave her my cell number to use in the future – and apologized for not contacting her sooner – she understood and was okay. It’s all too easy to equate making an immediate connection or getting a fast response when leaving a text or voice mail message to how important you are to that person – but that’s not always true.
Sometimes – like the restricted hours at Ashley Furniture – there are other factors impacting things and the truth is you, dear reader, are a most treasured, valued and important person!
