SECOND CHARM COLLECTIBLES: VINTAGE ENAMELS AND THE SENTIMENTALISM OF THE PAST

Dear All

I know some die hard fans of vintage enamels. They simply love the vibrant colours of this legacy of the past and the sentimentalism of it.  The tiffin  carriers, for example, recall us memories of the 60's and 70's - the packed lunch, the picnics by the beach, the old kopitiam shops, the travels upcountry or off the beaten tracks and  the visits to relatives where you are expected to bring "buah tangan" (gifts), which in this case refers to good home cooked food or when you want to boast of your cooking skills.

On further reflection, the use of tiffin carrier needs to be revived as it can contribute to our effort to conserve the environment and reduce disposal of  food containers.  Even now, some eco conscious or organic food joints, encourage us to bring our own food containers.  A few years ago, I remembered Citbank and Sembawang Corps, issuing enamel tiffin carriers, of course embossed with their company logos, as gift items to their customers. They must have the same intention. Whether at individual or organizational levels, such efforts are certainly laudable.

Rare and pretty tiffin carrier. Larger than normal with red and white handpainted
flowers against a vibrant turqoise blue background. $200

Vintage tiffin carriers with green swirling designs. Inspite of the same motif,
each is an individual piece as no two carriers have the same swirlings.  $80 each.

Reminiscence of the past.  Tiffin carriers that were popular in the 50's -70's.
  $80 each.

Green swirling enamel bowl.  $50

Enamel tea pot. $50

A matching tiffin carrier to the jug. One can collect a whole series of this designs
over time.  $80

We hope to be collecting more vintage enamelwares in time to come.

Till then,

warmest regards
