Went on a vintage hunt yesterday. Did not get many. But got some nice surprises though. Some lovely finds, in fact some exciting finds that make up for the little that we got. Discovering rare art deco and retro pieces really make my day and part of the fun of this work.
Sharing with you those rare finds below.
How not to get excited when you see such lovely piece like this.
Vintage 60's, solid teak wood dresser with original sea blue formica.
Some of us just go crazy seeing such slender beautiful legs.
L 48 x D20 x H65.5 inches. The table height is 30 inches.
Another rare find of the day. Genuinely retro 1960's dining table with the
characteristic pencil legs capped with generous brass at the lower ends.
Gold metal strips lined the sides of the table top. This piece is all the more
wonderful by the fact that the table top is solid teak piece. So eventhough
the cream formica top is a bit damage, one can easily strip it and sand
down the teak wood for a beautifully grained top.
A beautiful midcentury 60's teak sofat set. Comprise 3-seater plus
2 single seaters. Slender arms and pencilled legs.
Another vintage sofa set. Solid teak with elegant straight legs.
Relatively good condition.
of No Black Tie, a popular pub at Bukit Bintang.
A nice slim retro 1960's wardrobe, solid teak with original decorative
metal knobs. L37.5 x D22 x H68 inches
Inside view of the wardrobe. The full length mirror inside is bevelled edged
and made in England.
Original vintage decorative metal knobs to the retro cupboard above.
mirror must has broken. Will make a nice slender display cabinet or
bookshelf once we restore the piece and place a glass in front.
for Krishant, a teenager loving vintage furniture. Though he came in with his
mother, he personally chose this piece amongst the many that we have.
And insisted that we just oiled instead of shellac and lacquering it,
for he loves the raw rustic look of old pieces.
My favourite find of the day. Art Deco 1930's-40's bed. Odd size though. Not quite
super single, not quite queen size. So the mattress has to be custom made which is not really a problem. Mattress shop do take orders for custom made mattress
and the price is not much different for commercially ready ones .
52.5 x 74 inches. Reserved.
Vintage 1950's solid burmese teak queen size bed. Lovely once restored
and certainly sturdy compared to modern non teak beds nowadays.
Vintage 1960's solid teak queen sized bed. Best restored to its
original simplicity and elegance.
Another retro 1960's solid teak queen size bed with opening on the headboard.
Plain pink formica lined the top part of the headboard, for a touch of colour.
The top part of the retro headboard hides a compartment.
A 60's solid teak sideboard with nice decorative vintage handles.
Best restored.
Found this lovely oval shaped marble that looks good on a
vintage sewing machine legs. 48 x 28inches
Travelling chest box. Makes a good storage. L39 x W20 x H19.5 inches
Till my next posting,
Warmest regards
Sharifah
