LEE MIN HO AND RETRO SOFA

Dear All

One can never have enough of Lee Min Ho. Either from his immensely successful Korean drama series, "Boys Before Flowers" that shot him to mega stardom, both locally in Korea and internationally or from his equally successful current drama "Personal Taste" in which he plays a gay character. I love him in the latter drama for his poignant acting. The two dramas created the sensational Lee Min Ho Syndrome - fans, especially teenage school girls and ajummas (middle aged women) who simply go crazy over him and lap up anything related to Lee Min Ho. No wonder his Facebook has more than half a million fans. 3% it seems are from Korea and the rest especially from Asia, America and France. Leonardo De Caprio has only half of that numbers!

Almost a ritual, I switch Viikii.com every morning to check on the latest uploads for the current and most popular korean dramas. On Viikii homepage under "topics", which lines the latest news on Korean entertainment, a particular title attracts me: "Lee Min Ho dances for banana milk". Like one of those affected by the Lee Min Ho Syndrome, I excitedly clicked on it and there was of course the ever handsome Lee Min Ho dancing for a banana milk commercial. He couldn't be cuter.

However, what attracts me was less of Min Ho but more of the props of the setting. Ah, what a surprise. Couldn't believe my eyes. One of the props is a slim, elegant retro 3-seater sofa with a green tufted cushion seats. I have the very same design furniture in my Singapore shop and several equally similar ones. Original retro teak sofas of the 60's and 70's. I felt like Lee Min Ho is advertising for me and that I had hit a jackpot.

I understood why interior designers, architects, boutique owners, high end F & B outlets and yuppies, have been grabbing these kind of furniture from us the last few years. Mid century modern furniture of the 60's and 70's are a rage now. Only last week, an interior designer from Kuala Lumpur, bought 12 pieces of the single retro sofas that come with such 3-seaters. This week alone, Jaycee in Singapore, booked 3 pieces, Abigail bought 2 and Frederic expressed interest and will be coming next week to view. Two weeks ago, I delivered 2 pieces of such single sofas to Kenneth complete with vintage cushion seats , a retro coffee table and a retro dresser as a TV stand. I will have to keep one set for myself before the supply runs out.

Such 3-seater sofa often comes with 6-piece cushions. In this case, it has been modified into a long 2-piece cushions. We have done the same for some of our customers, however, not tufted like the ones in the picture.
