A DATIN'S MALACCAN HOME AT SUNGEI PENCALA

Dear All

I stayed on till Monday in Kuala Lumpur this week because of photo shoots and interview with Glam Deko, a lifestyle magazine, who wants to feature us in their coming June issue. After the photo shoots and interview, the team wanted to know if I can recommend them beautiful homes among my customers, especially traditional houses, which they can feature in their magazine.

I immediately thought of Datin Khairiah, one of my long time customers. Sometime ago, she mentioned to me that she is building a Malaccan home at Sungai Pencala and invited me over. Sungai Pencala is fast becoming a rich Malays' enclave, where huge and beautiful retirement or country homes are being built. These nouveau rich Malays can boast of having, former Malaysian Prime Minister's wife, Jean Abdullah, as their neighbour. From time to time, streams of black, shining Proton Perdana, with police escorts, front and rear, would whiz through infront of my shop, (as Sungei Pencala is just at the border of Taman Tun, where SECOND CHARM is) and those who witness such spectacle, would whisper that Badawi and his wife, are passing through. I've not been to Datin Khairiah's house but those among my customers, who know her place, told me how beautiful the place is. They couldnt be wrong.

The Glam Deko team asked whether I can introduce them to Datin Khairiah before they approach her. Why not. I immediately called her and told her that my call has nothing to do with the pieces of furniture she has reserved with us a few days ago. I told her that Glam Deko's team is right in front of me and that they want to feature her home. She chided me for not visiting her but I think she is happy that I'm linking her to Glam Deko because after I passed the phone to Azreezal, the journalist of Glam Deko, he immediately got an appointment to see Datin at 5pm on the same day. I'm happy for both of them and for being able to link with each other faster than facebook.

I will pay my respect to Datin Khairiah one of these days. She is one of those women who could have chosen an easier path of being a tai tai wife. Her husband, after all, is a highly respected senior heart surgeon. She choses instead an enterprising life, venturing into a number of businesses, including a home based spa. I look up to women like her as my role model.

And I will call her separately for the pieces she has booked with us; a vintage gramaphone cabinet, a 1950's low study table and a white painted teak bookshelf.

Hope the interview and photos from Glam Deko will come out alright. My thanks to Zul. Azreezal, Mazlan and Azhar from Glam Deko.

Warmest regards

Sharifah
