Dear All
Two Saturdays ago, James and his partner came to our shop at Taman Tun, KL. They were in desperate need for dining chairs, for a party they are going to have the week after. They already have a dining table. Both of them must have surveyed most of the furniture shops in KL (including IKEA, I'm sure) and finally decided on us. I remembered they came a week earlier, just looking around, no mention of dining chairs , nor of the party. They must have already decided on the pieces that they are interested in, the second time they came to us. For they brought with them upholstery fabric, a nice retro like chequered cream coloured piece from Macy.
It didnt take them long to show me the pieces. They picked 6 vintage rectangle dressers seats, with pvc-cushioned top and wooden legs. These dresser stools were part of the furniture that we got from an old bungalow off Bukit Timah Road in Singapore. They once belonged to Dali, the creator and maker of perfume for Singapore Airlines back in the 8o's. I found them in the basement of the huge bungalow, which looked like the workshop where the perfume must have been bottled or packed. Perhaps, it is my imagination, but the lingering scent of the perfume was still there. The seats and the legs of the stools are still in good condition, except for the lining underneath. To save him money, I suggested we just changed the underlinings, instead of full upholstery. We got the new lining done for RM 8 each! Otherwise, it would cost him RM60 just to do the seat.
They also picked 2 high armchairs, for the head table; simple, clean cut, elegant scandinavian looking chairs. They wanted us to touch up the wooden frames of the chairs and change the upholstery, using the fabric they bought. They also wanted the assurance that the pieces can be ready the Saturday after. And I said yes. Woodworks and upholstery involved different persons and require quick coordination to get the work done within the week. I must catch Hj Yusuf, my restorer before he leaves for Malacca, and Mr Tan, my upholstery man can only pick them up after Hj Yusuf has done his part. Somehow, I managed to get everybody to do their division of labour on time. So, when James called last Saturday that he will come at 3pm to pick up the furniture, I proudly told him the pieces are ready.

These are the 2 chairs picked by James and his partner for the head table. They are relatively good condition. We have 4 of them at KL. 2 more are still available.
The newly upholstered chairs with fabric from Macy. Reupholstery is fun and creative. One gets to personalise and individualise the piece. A really piece of mine.
"Dear Sharifah, Many thanks again for doing such a great job on the dining chairs. I thought it would be nice to show you how they turned up in the dining hall. They look perfect! Cheers." James
Nothing beats the feeling of having a satisfied, happy customer. It makes one wanting to work harder and do better. My thanks to James too for giving us the opportunity.
Warmest regards
Sharifah
