A BACHELOR'S PAD AT BANGSAR

Dear All

I'm blessed with some very loyal customers who have been in and out of SECOND CHARM for the last eight, nine years. They have introduced us to their family members, relatives, colleagues and friends and they in turned have introduced others to us. I've known some of the kids since they were babies and now in schools. Sundays in my shop at KL, are sometimes family days with the parents coming with their children, each looking for something that might interests them, from toys to vintage furniture.

These regulars, have over the years, collected quite a few stuffs from us. It is interesting to see how these stuffs have been creatively and lovingly put to use by the new proud owners. One of them is Zul, a young art director at Bluinc, a publishing house. Zul comes often to
SECOND CHARM over the years, looking for individual pieces to fill his bachelor's pad, nestled at a quieter part of Bangsar, one of the most exclusive neighbourhood in the Klang Valley. A media person who has to work long hours and meet magazines datelines, home to him is a refuge, far from the madding crowd.

Being a talented and creative person, befitting of an art director, he could pick a lone item, in its original condition and completely transform it into something different and beautifully blend it with the rest of his collections. I remember how amazed I was when he invited me to see his place and showed me the pieces that have come from
SECOND CHARM. Quite a few of them and yet they have taken on a new lease of life and exude such beauty and warmth, that I'm completely touched and proud too, that they have come from our small store.

The armchair was originally in light greenish fabric and the wooden frame was cream colour. Zul reupholstered it with fabric bought from Ikea and repainted the frame white. White and black is the favourite theme of his place. The mirror and the long console table were also from SECOND CHARM. They were already in white. The high armchair at the further end is also from us, repainted white. Original colour was teak stain.

When Zul got the coffee table from us, it was coated with at least three different coloured paints. Sold to him cheaply because of that. The contemporary squarish black PVC chair with swivel stainless steel leg is also from SECOND CHARM

This shaker style armchair was a recent addition from SECOND CHARM.I still have one more in my shop in Singapore. One of the same design but without the arms was bought by Jenni who wants to do folk painting on them. The yellow seat is newly upholstered. Splashes of colors apart from the main theme of black and white is refreshing.

The white chair was originally in teak colour stain. Not that old. However, the cupboard behind is a real vintage piece of the 1920's. It was originally brown in colour and one of the pieces I regretted selling!

This 2-door wardrobe is one piece that Zul has left it untouched, as when he got it from SECOND CHARM, without repainting it. The underlayer brown paint and the upper white paints peelings are left as it is. This real weathered piece has a charm of its own.

Zul sent me the above pictures with a note that he wants to share them with me and the rest of us. They will be featured in one of the lifestyle magazines next month, he said. To Zul,
thanks for sharing and for patronizing us all these years.

Warmest regards

Sharifah
