More and more are coming to us to customize furniture using old teak wood. There are many reasons for that. One is the space constraint or space availability. For many of us, space constraints is a real concern. Modern new apartments can be small and require wise, creative planning. For this, customizing is a solution. For instance, we had made a same designed television console in dimension of 200 cm, 180 cm, 120 cm and latest at 110 cm! The depths had been adjusted from 40 cm to 45 cm to 50 cm. The legs as high as 30 cm and as low as 15 cm. We had made a writing table from 160 to 120 cm to 70 cm. We had customized a dresser with collapsible mirror which when closes become a writing table at a mere 90 cm. We had made a writing table with only 2 legs at one side because the other side will rest at a raised platform. We had customized a shoe cabinet, a wall panel, a cabinet to fit a big subwoofer, a small hollow cabinet to fit vintage electronics, and currently a record cabinet combined with a wine bar among the many others we have bespoked.
Secondly, customizing is a beautiful solution to have those designs that you feel you must have in your new place but not easily available locally. For instance, many drool over the vintage scandinavian, danish or midcentury furniture in Europe and America but depress at the high shipping costs. At Second Charm, we make beautiful midcentury, scandinavian, danish inspired furniture if you just give a chance to look at our blog or visit our warehouse. And you can leverage on our strength working with solid wood and metal and having a network of fine craftsmen, to produce that dream pieces of yours. Furthermore, having them bespoke adds character and individuality to a customized piece.
Thirdly, customizing allow you to choose material and finishing. For many, who are disenchanted with mass produce furniture using cheap materials, customizing them using good, better materials is a way out.
Plywood for instance can be replaced with solid wood. For those environmentally conscious, making them in recycled teak, can be part of their contribution to a more sustainable development. At Second Charm, making furniture in solid old teak is our forte. For finishing, you can choose various furnishing, matt or gloss, waxed finish or lacquered finish, dark or light etc. You can bring your own fabric, choose your favourite colours etc.
Fourthly, customizing furniture gives room to display your creativity and imagination. I have many customers who came in with their own designs or designs that they tweak to include their fancy. Slated drawers instead of flat ones, a louvre panel that allows use of remote control, a glass back cabinet instead of wood for great display, wheels to a sideboard, harmonizing art deco and retro styles in a piece,
combining colours and shades. The outcome is always awesome.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. All our prices are in Singapore Dollars.
2. For bespoke pieces, we need a timeline of 1.5- 2 months. We will submit proper drawing,
detailing specifications, to avoid misunderstanding.
3. For restorations and reupholstery works, the timeline is also 1.5-2 months. Faster for loose
upholstery works such as cushion covers and chair seats that can be hand carry.
4. Delivery charge within Singapore is free for those above $2000.
5. For our Malaysian customers, we do not charge transport from Singapore to our shop
in Kuala Lumpur, but we do charge transport from our shop in KL to your home or office.
