VINTAGE FURNITURE - REPAIRED, RESTORED AND REUPHOLSTERED

Dear All

Since my last posting on Synti Leong's house, there has been quite a number of interests on the vintage, retro pieces that we have. We have quite a good range of them, I think. Display cabinets, sideboards, beds, wardrobes, dressers, wooden sofas, bedside tables, coffee tables, chairs and dining tables. Some of them in Kuala Lumpur, some in Singapore and some with my restorer in Malacca. Should you be interested in any of the vintage types, just let me know and I should be able to send you images of what's available. No obligation, not to worry. And we do move them across borders.

In fact, this Monday, we bringing down quite a number of fully restored pieces for my Singapore based customers: Jennifer's retro 60's dining table with new formica top, Adeline's retro sofa set, Linda's retro armchair, Jeremy's 3-seater vintage sofa, Corinne's retro sideboard, Caroline's 1920's antique wardrobe, Ivy's vintage queen size bed with attached bedside cabinets and dining table, Mohd's art deco and retro sideboards, Cristina's and Suriah's wing chairs and ottomons, Saifuddin's art deco's writing desks and wardrobe, Hwee Bin's repaired kopitiam chairs, Cindy's retro bedside table with vintage white formica, Ting Hway's upholstered dining chairs and cushion seats. Also retro writing desk and chest of drawers.

Below are a mixed of restored and reupholstered vintage pieces and newly acquired pieces. There are also some small home accents pieces, such as vases and paintings, that might add some character to your home.

SHARING THE LOVE FOR VINTAGE -THE LOVELY HOME OF SYNTI LEONG.

Dear All

This blog is not just about selling vintage furniture. It is also about sharing ideas, knowledge of and love for vintage furniture and furnishing. Today, I would like to share with you the lovely home of one of my long time customers, Synti Leong, who over the years have accumulated quite a number of beautiful retro pieces from SECOND CHARM, Kuala Lumpur. I didnt realised how substantial the buys were, until she sent the pictures below. I'm proud to say that most of the pieces in her living, dining and study rooms, as well as the patio, come from our shop at Taman Tun Dr Ismail. In her blog, dedicated to her pet dogs, she voted us as her favourite furniture shop.

Though these vintage pieces come from SECOND CHARM, credit really goes to this soft spoken, gentle soul and passionate animal lover, for her fine taste in furniture and furnishing and for bringing out the retro atmosphere so authentically and so exquisitely.

You can see her expression of delight and hear her gasp of excitement, whenever, she sees a genuine retro piece at our shop. Much as she is concerned about her budget, she always ends up taking the those pieces that would suit her interior decor, knowing that the same piece may never come again. She takes great pain in her choice of fabric for the upholstery, selecting the right colour combination, combining plain with stripes or flowers, contrasting bold with earthy colours. And the result is a delightful place called home.

A perfect retro combination. She inherits the charming coffee table
from her grandmother. However, the 3-seater sofa, the 2 singles armchairs and the beautifully long sideboard, came from SECOND CHARM. All are vintage pieces of the 60's, of solid teak wood and fully restored. We customed-made the long cushions for her 3-seater sofa.
Covers for the seats were also done at SECOND CHARM.

Another 3-seater retro sofa from SECOND CHARM specifically for the study room. The vintage side coffee table with books on it, was bought from us sometime later. So was the coffee table at the corner. It is difficult to get all retro pieces of the right combination at the same
time. So if you find one that you really like, grab it because you
never know when the next one will come along.

Combining vintage and modern. The retro furniture with the
characteristic pencil legs give real elegance to the study room.
The big worldmap at back of the retro sofa is
simply awesome.

A close view of the retro 1960's sideboard that has been fully restored by us. The big single retro armchair was also from SECOND CHARM. It was originally in PVC.

A rare retro sideboard cum divider bought recently from
SECOND CHARM.
The collectibles were tastefully displayed
without being crowded.

The dining table from SECOND CHARM is a rare vintage 1920-40's.
The midcentury modern chairs and the wooden bench were also from SECOND CHARM. The bench was a recent addition. Synti gives a personal touch to the bench by making a cushion seat to it. We did the long cushion and upholstery for the chairs and bench for her.

5 pieces of midcentury modern dining chairs from SECOND CHARM. Restored and reupholstered. Synti choice of fabric remains true
to the retro style of this
period pieces of the 70's

A harmonious blend of modern and vintage furniture . But somehow cannot help the feeling that the vintage furniture are the ones giving character to the place.

A lovely retro sideboard from SECOND CHARM. Not to big. Smalller retro
pieces are sometimes hard to find. The collection of vintage pyrex with
the rose motifs, is also from SECOND CHARM. We still have vintage
advertisements posters of Shanghai ladies at shops.

A vintage sofa set with metal legs also from SECOND CHARM that graces her patio. Choice of grey PVC by Synti.

Hope Synti's lovely home gives you some ideas of vintage furniture and furnishing. And hope you share them with like minded friends.

For those of you who love animals, do visit Synti's blog at http://raising haruki.blogspot.com/2010/10/blog-post.html

Leaving you on a vintage hunt. Probably at SECOND CHARM?

Warmest regards

VINTAGE FINDS - ART DECO AND RETRO FURNITURE OF THE 50'S AND 60'S

Dear All

I brought in some beautifully restored vintage furniture from my restorer, back in Singapore yesterday. Some of the pieces have seen booked and will be sent out the next few days. But they are still some beautiful pieces that I specially picked for my Singapore based customers, to give them better choices of fully restored pieces. Below are some of those pieces.

There are also quite a few retro pieces of the 60's and art deco pieces of the 50's unrestored as yet that we got over the last one and half week. There are some of you who love them in their original condition, and we are happy that the furniture are taken as is. There is a certain charm about an unrestored piece. It is as if someone aged with experience, or that it holds memories, that leaves the new owner to imagine or compare with his or her own.

Nevertheless, should they be restored and taken care of, they would last a lifetime of joy.
